Evidence of 8 Stages of Genocide including:
- Classification- The Indonesian military discriminated against the Indonesian Communist party (PKI). This specific political group supported the president Kusno Sukarno.
- Symbolization- The symbol was the Communist Star. The members of the PKI were known as commies and were harassed and abused in the streets.
- Dehumanization- The Communists were tortured brutally. There were rapes, forced disappearances, forced movements and other crimes that were used against the Communists. They were beaten like animals and were called vermin's and dogs. In some cases the police would drench the "Communists" with gasoline and set them on fire.
- Organization- They planned to invade East Timur on October 1, 1965. The meetings were scheduled with the U.S and other large world governments.
- Polarization-The Anti-Communist parties posted signs and made broadcasts. Some from the extremist party went for a more violent method to prove that the Communists weren't equal to other humans.
- Preparation- They prepared through a meeting with the U.S., Australia and Great Britain. Together they raised 1 billion dollars for military supplies.
- Extermination- The Indonesian military sent armies out onto the islands to kill the Communist villagers. 1/3 of the Indonesian population was murdered.
- Denial- The Indonesian government and the supporting Western nations denied the fact that 2/3 of the population was slaughtered. The Western media was not in Indonesia meaning they did not cover the events. Approximately 500,000 to 1 million people were killed.
